I’m a mom. I am blessed to have my biological mother in my life (she lives about 5 miles away) and have a step-mother who’s been in my life since I was 3 1/2 years old – I don’t remember my life without her in it and I remember the day we met. My grandmother had a HUGE part in raising me as a child and into young adulthood and was the only person I could turn to when I was a teen mom.
The truth is I am who I am because of many women in my life. I’m sure you can relate.
I don’t think you need to be a biological mother to be considered a mothering type of person. If you give someone a hug when they’re sad, if you lend them your ear so they can vent, if you give them words of advice from your own personal experiences then you are, like it or not, a mother.
“She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.”
Proverbs 31:26 – 27
Most of the members of the church my family attends are seniors – 65 years or older – so you can imagine all the wisdom that’s bestowed upon my husband and I. Many of the older women of our small church gather once a week for a casual lunch and I walk away with what I call a Hot Life Tip every week.
My late aunt Adele wasn’t a biological mother but was full of wisdom. She shared her unique and funky brand of knowledge with anyone who would listen and when you least expected it but needed it the most. A few things she taught me, even if she was semi-joking, I still hold onto this day.
I made this printable for you! You can print it out, color it in and frame it to give as a gift to your mother, or whomever is a mother-figure in your life right now. Enjoy!
